Exam Time

Stage 4 students have let out a collective sigh as their exams come to a close.

Just remember that your exam mark is not who you are, but simply a tool used to help you grow into the person you will be.

Year 7 PDHPE Banquet

Students were asked to research and consider the Australian dietary guidelines whilst preparing a cultural meal.

A very commendable effort from year 7 on their first day back.

From the feedback already, it's encouraging to hear the greater appreciation of food preparation and the effort needed to make healthy choices.

Speak Out!

Stage 4 and 5 students were treated to a rousing rendition of their peers' rhetorical skills on Wednesday morning at the Speak Out public speaking competition.

Following a guest address by Mr Luis Rodriguez on the benefits of public speaking in the workplace, two teams fought in a closely-contested debate "That Australia is a caring nation." Representatives from each English class delivered a prepared speech on the issue that matters most to them, ranging from pollution to child marriage to money. We were also entertained by a variety of impromptu speeches, enjoying some audience participation!

Congratulations to the winners of each Stage 4 category:

Debate - Affirmative team: Vongi Chikonzo (9F), Michael Diguglielmo (8L), Charlise Hannagan (8O)

Stage 4 Prepared Speech - First place: Zoe Angeles (7B)
Second place: Jessica Lage (7G)
Third place: Joshua McGinnes (8L)

Stage 4 Impromptu Speech - Michael Diguglielmo (8L)
Second place: Shaun Trevithick (8O)
Third place: Nilana De Silva (7G)

Each participant will receive a Participation certificate for their efforts.

Special thanks to Mrs Rodriguez for organising the event, to Mr Loadsman for his ongoing mentoring of the debating team, and also to the various judges. We look forward to making Speak Out a tradition in the MACC calendar!

Year 7 at play

Year 7 are busy practicing for their drama presentation next week. Students have selected a scene from the play 'Boy Overboard' adapted from the novel by Morris Gleitzman.

Who would like to see Year 7 put together a whole play for everyone to see?

Year 8 Poetry

To share the creative exploits of Year 8, the English department and Year 8 students facilitated a wonderful exposition of their original poetry and visual representations on Monday afternoon. The work displayed was an excellent and inspiring taste of Year 8 English for the Year 7 visitors, as well as some proud parents

It was such a success and much credit goes to Ms Brooks for her efforts to put on this event, with the support of Mr Loadsman, Mrs Rodriguez and Mr Ollis. A job well done!

What was the most interesting aspect of this poetry display?

A testing time for year 7...

Year 7 Water Testing Field Trip.

Officially the best Geography lesson of the year! According to the students anyway.

Year 7 have been learning about how the geographical features of an area, especially rivers, can have an effect on how communities live and develop.

Students are taking part in an authentic testing process, using a variety of tools and techniques.

What is more interesting, History or Geography?

A TITANIC Topic

Year 7 has been learning about documentaries this term. We have been using the Titanic tragedy as an example.

Here are some things that a few students have found interesting so far:

She weighed more than 46 000 tons and was about 270 metres long. Caitlin

The Titanic took millions of hours to build, but only three to sink. Anthony

The fourth smoke stack was a fake because it made it look better. Brendon

The iceberg was clear, as it had rotated in and out of the water. Zoe

It took years to build and crashed on the first voyage. Nimesh

Lions in the playground...

Year 7 in the playground during Maths testing whether lines are parallel. They used masking tape to make a transversal across two lines and used parallel line properties to see if the lines were parallel.

Did you see any lions?
